Beep — the sound of painting music
In this 2 weeks sound design course, we explored how to enhance an interactive experience through generating sound while painting.

Introducing “Beep”
“Beep” introduces a new way of expression through art, emphasising the dimensions of sound during painting by combining the virtual and physical experience.
While in the process of painting, “Beep” recognizes the strokes of the brush and colour of choice, and translates them into tangible sounds.
These could be saved, looped and edited to create a tune that corresponds to the painting, thus enabling the user to experience the “sound of painting”. The sounds themselves have been designed to give the user a logical yet open sensation to this new form of media. Carefully picking each note for its corresponding colour using frequency diagrams was the initial step. Translating these notes to a conventional musical scale to provide the user with a sense of familiarity giving them space to alter this sound with movement and line weight was our next step in this project.
